Lunar Festival of Lights

17 Sep 2026 - 20 Sep 2026

Various Buildings Sofia

The LUNAR Festival of Lights is one of Sofia’s most spectacular annual cultural events, transforming some of the Bulgarian capital’s best-known buildings, squares and public spaces into an open-air gallery of light.

Held over several evenings, the festival brings together Bulgarian and international artists who use 3D projection mapping, light installations, immersive experiences and digital art to give familiar city landmarks a completely new appearance. After sunset, monumental façades become animated canvases filled with colour, movement and visual stories, while parks, squares and pedestrian areas host interactive installations and other works of contemporary light art.

LUNAR encourages visitors to explore Sofia on foot, following a route between the different artworks across the city centre. Historic architecture, modern buildings and urban spaces become part of the artistic experience, creating a distinctive combination of culture, technology and the city itself.

Many of the installations can be experienced free of charge, making the festival accessible to residents and visitors of all ages. The event attracts large crowds and creates a particularly lively atmosphere in central Sofia, with the illuminated landmarks providing some of the most memorable views and photo opportunities of the city at night.

Whether you are interested in digital art and innovative technology or simply want to experience Sofia from a different perspective, LUNAR Festival of Lights is one of the highlights of the capital’s cultural calendar and a compelling reason to explore the city after dark.
