Serdica Archaeological Complex

Ancient Roman ruins in the heart of modern Sofia

The Ancient Serdica Archaeological Complex is located in the underpasses and ground level of Sofia's central metro station. It preserves the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Serdica, which was founded in the 1st century BC. The complex includes remnants of streets, buildings, an early Christian basilica, and fortress walls. It's a unique open-air museum where you can see layers of history dating back 2,000 years.
